Holiday break

I am off for a few days to take a break north of the French River, into the land of black bears and wolves. Be back later next week!

A Single Man, directed by Tom Ford

This film is amazing, contemplative, stylish. It's also breathtaking and heartbreaking, hilarious, witty and sad. Tom Ford directed and co-wrote it and Firth, Goode, and Moore are just wonderful. The soundtrack is stunning too, with help from Shigeru Umebayashi who also did the music for In The Mood For Love. I won't go on too much about it, but it did resonate with me because I will soon be 47 and George Falconer, the protagonist and older man, is a noble character.

Danny by name, and nothing more...

Yul Brynner, George Platt Lynes, 1942

Some of you may be too young to know exactly who Yul Brynner was. He was pretty much a movie star in the matinee idol stream - a singer and dramatic actor who starred in such films as The King and I, Anastasia and as Ramses in The Ten Commandments.   When I was a kid, he took a turn as a demented robot in a science fiction film called Westworld. He was also a cowboy in The Magnificent Seven. Jeez, he had nice junk!

George Platt Lynes: reprise

GPL was a genius, decades ahead of his time. He knew some very influential people and had a ménage à trois with Glenway Wescott and Monroe Wheeler in the 1930s. There is a very famous photo of Yul Brynner posing nude for GPL that I will post next (hung and uncut Yul!!). The photo above is of Victor Kraft, the young lover of Aaron Copland, the American composer of such classics as Fanfare for the Common Man and Billy the Kid. GPL knew a lot of people, yeah, but died broke and broken and almost forgotten. I hope when you look at these pictures you can see the bravery and the artistry in these pre-Stonewall images...

Remembering Hair Trigger: Obsession

This guy only had one name: Obsession. Lean and hung, hairy and handsome. He and a few others I was bright enough to save on my HDD when I first stumbled upon the Hair Trigger website years ago. It is now defunct, alas, a victim of savvier porn in this age of the surface and deep web .. I was always impressed by it - the images were large and sharp, no fuzzy cheap imagery there. And the sheer volume, certainly a feast for the eyes.
