This handsome man with the 'funny' name transfixed me some years ago when I saw pictures of him, care of the old
Champion studios. He epitomised for me youthful carefree innocence in a time before AIDS. If you go right to the beginning of my blog, back four years to the very first page, you can see some colour photos of him that were floating around on the net (and still do certainly, in varying degrees of size and graininess).
Call it a lust across the decades. If he is still alive he would most likely be in his 70s now. An odd thought, as his features are frozen for me in the early 60s like some high school crush. There is something incredibly sexy in these 50s and early 60s photos. As a teenager I had a major crush on guys shot by Bruce of LA and George Platt Lynes. And I still find them so hot! I remember my fascination with the pic of Yul Brynner lying on his back, wearing nothing but his hair, which he did have back then :)
George Platt Lynes!! There is a great triple bio of Platt Lynes, Kirstein & Cadmus called Intimate Companions. Very interesting, a nice read. GPL's work is wonderful, he was quite a ground-breaker!
Yul was cool! Brynner knew a LOT of people, truly an artistic personage, not just the king in The King and I.
