A Hollywood flash in the pan in the late 40s and early 50s, he nevertheless made a distinct impression on women (and I am sure raised a few boners in theatre darkness). He had no formal acting training, but he was nice to look at. He was a heavy smoker and it certainly affected his looks later on... But back then, it seems, everybody smoked!
