To be honest, it's not an event that matters up here in Canada but yet we've copied the Americans and adopted the pitch. I've heard even Mexico has a Black Friday. The sales up here are really a joke compared to the US deals, they're practically shrinkflation. It's just another gimmick to drum up spending. I did read that the term is derived from what the old ledgers looked like. Debits in red and profits inscribed with black ink.
