I hope some of you can enjoy this most Canadian of holidays. And finally here is southern Ontario it has reached into the high 20s and it's blazingly sunny. I guess it is true to the fact that it is traditionally considered the start of the summer up here in little old Canada.
The painting is by Winterhalter, 1851. It depicts the Duke of Wellington offering a gift to his godson and namesake, Prince Arthur (later Duke of Connaught) on his birthday. What I love about this painting is the towering figure of Albert Prince Consort in the background and in shadow. He looks away - out into the landscape at his managerial triumph the Crystal Palace in the distance.

Un Royal digne d’être célèbre.
En Quebec ma famille célèbre le Jour de Victoria et le Jour des patriotes ensemble.
Nous avons eu en excellent dîner composé d’hors-d’œuvres, de cocktails au champagne, de Prime Rib, de Yorkshire Pudding, d’asperges, de pommel de terre au gratin et, en dessert, d’un trifle anglais - composé de crème pâtissière à la liqueur d’amande, de madeleines, et de confitures d’abricot et de cerise, surmonte de crème fouettée. :)
