Amadeo de Souza Cardoso as Bacchus

Velázquez's El Triunfo de Baco o Los Borrachos in the Prado Museum 1629

Portuguese artist Amadeo de Souza Cardoso was the son of a bourgeois farmer and vintner of comfortable means who was able to furnish an education for him (and his nine brothers).  He studied architecture, but as an experienced caricaturist found painting more to his liking.  His early work was very much in the Expressionist camp, but as he moved further he took up Cubism.  He was never able to move into a mature period because he died in the 1918 Influenza Pandemic, more commonly known as the Spanish Flu.  He was 30 years old.

You can see a few more pictures of this handsome fellow here: AdSC

He's as stunning as his art. Thanks for enlightening us. :)

Yes, he has a naturally muscled body, noting his extended arm. He'll be forever young. Thanks for peeking!
