That very strangely modern 'eye blast' piece, before the pictures of Schneider himself, was what caught me and led me to investigate his work. He was gay and expressive at an especially bad time for gay men, the 1890s. A contemporary, one Hellmuth Jahn, actually attempted to blackmail him about his sexuality. He fled to Italy to escape repercussions.
